THE UNIVERSITY


On August 26th, 1975, Bundelkhand University (BU) opened its doors to award Graduate, Post-graduate and Doctoral Degrees to the students who were exploring their creative intellect and learning aptitude in 26 affiliated colleges. The event marked the culmination of the efforts of the UP Government under the able leadership of its dynamic Chief Minister- H.N.Bahuguna, to create a new kind of University, relevant to the time's and Nation's need, where students would be trained in the globally competitive environment to the receive the state of art knowledge in qualitative and quantitative techniques, analytical application of knowledge as well as in the creation of knowledge. The disciplines open to learning to all Indian as well as foreign nationals were: Science, Rural Economics, Management, Education, Library and Information Science, Agriculture, Law, Medicine and Engineering.

In the year 1986, the University established four departments,namely: Department of Business Administration, Department of Rural Economics & Cooperation, Department of Mathematics & Statistics and Department of Library & Information Sciences. The intake of students was 120 per annum. Three new departments were made functional in 1999, namely: Department of Hotel & Tourism Management, Department of Food Technology, and Department of Geology.

In the Silver Jubilee Year 1999-2000, the Vice Chancellor and the Executive Council of Bundelkhand University organized the University Education by establishing 21 Schools of Higher Learning comprising: School of Basic Sciences; School of Applied Sciences; School of Life Sciences; School of Environmental Sciences; School of Pharmacy; School of Pure And Applied Radiation Biology; School of Information Technology; School of Computer & System Sciences; School of Home Science; School of Economics; School of Management; School of Languages; School of Law; School of Music And Fine Arts; School of Mass Communication And Journalism; School of Education; School of Physical Education; Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School of Social Sciences; School of International Studies; School of Vocational Studies; and Campus for Open Learning, were established. The Departments shall be the constituents of Schools. The present structure is adopted to facilitate interactive learning, inter-disciplinary study and research and international cooperation. In the year 1999, University admitted 400 students in various UG/PG courses which includes Biochemistry, Microbiology, Computer Application, Business Administration, Hotel & Tourism Management, Rural Economics & Cooperation, Pharmacy, Law, Mathematics, Statistics, Library Science, Library Automation, Banking Economics & Finance, International Business Management, Health Care Administration, Food Science & Technology and Geology.

In its meeting on March 6, 2000, Academic Council and Executive Council of the University created 4 new schools, namely: School of Dental Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Tourism & Hotel Management and Institute of Applied Engineering & Technology. In the millennium year, University has planned to start PG level Academic Program in Electronic Science, Applied Physics, Applied Chemistry, Polymer Science & Technology, Environmental Science & Technology, Software Technology, Packaging Technology, Radiation Biology, Computer Technology & Applications, Radiation biology, Information Science & Technology, Pharmacy, Financial Control & Analysis, Rural Development & Management, Public Administration, and Business Finance; UG/ PG level Academic Program in Biotechnology, Bio-Sciences, Information Technology, Education, Mass Communication & Journalism, and ; and UG level Academic Program in Physical Education. In addition, number of seats has been increased in several existing courses.

The Bundelkhand University had inaugurated its Silver Jubilee in the year 1999 with the introduction of 18 new job-oriented and vocational Academic Program under the umbrella of 21 Schools of advanced learning with an intake of 720 students. In the current academic session 2001-2002, BU is opening 90 new academic Seminars to cater the needs of people of the region/ India with an intake of 7000 students.
