INSTITUTE OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES

Mission: To understand & find solutions related with environmental problems.

Objectives :

-
to use scientific principles and practical knowledge to understand the environmental issues.
-
to create strong awareness to protect the environment.
-
to find easy and adaptable solutions to the environmental problems.
-
to create realization that environment science and life are inter-related.
-
to work extensively for innovative environment management & audit.
-
to have greater appreciation for the environment of animals and birds, plants and natural diversity, and sea, valley and mountains.

Environment is the sum total of all conditions and influences on the planet earth that affect the development and life of all living organisms. It is now established beyond any doubt that the environment of one living being is related to the environment of every other living being. Though we are aware of most of the problems, which we are facing today as a result of human activities, it is difficult to foresee many environmental problems that mankind might face in the future, if things continue to be the way they are. The global awareness and concern for the environment has forced governments, institutions and individuals to take stock of the quality of air we breathe and the water we drink. We are all feeling concerned about environmental degradation. Survival of all living beings and sustainable development requires in depth knowledge and study of environments.

Assessment of risk associated with previously unknown, unrecognized, unanticipated or unsuspected chemical pollutants in the environment has been a major concern of environmental scientists in this millennium. Early identification and investigation of potential environment pollution issues before they worsen are critical for protecting ecology and human health. During the last four decades, the impact of chemical pollution has focused almost exclusively on the conventional priority pollutants, especially those acutely toxic/ carcinogenic, pesticides and industrial intermediates displaying persistence in the environment. One large class of chemicals receiving comparatively little attention comprises the bioactive chemicals, which include pharmaceuticals and active ingredients in personal care products.

The Institute will endeavor to study the problems of environment in an integrated manner using the interdisciplinary knowledge and research of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geology and Biology. The Institute of Environmental Sciences aims to impart state of art theoretical and practical knowledge to the students leading to the following degrees:
