INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY


Mission: To educate and train the masses in information technology and to undertake research to innovate information technology.

Objectives:

to impart state-of-the-art knowledge, skills and training in the field of information technology.

There have been revolutionary advancements in the field of information technology, particularly during the last three decades, viz., digital technologies and micro-electronics, laser and optical fiber systems, large scale introduction of wireless, growth of mobile/ cellular systems, developments in space communication and much more. These and other such innovations in the field of information technology have virtually transformed the world into a Global village. Computers have played a very important role, in this regard. Dissemination of knowledge/ information is touching ever newer and higher horizons. The use of information technology has widened the horizons for international level playing field to one and all.

Information technology is based on inter-connectivity of computers and workstations that store and extend information to the users. Whether it is education or business, music or cricket, medicine or rocket, ocean or ozone holes, one can push a button and information is there.. Internet, e-books, e-commerce, e-cinema and www have changed the complexion of information base. The growth of information technology shall be ultimately determined by the development of institutions and course curriculum that provide human resources of right quality and in adequate numbers. Institute of Information Technology is committed to produce highly competent professionals, team builders and leaders and highly valued members of information technology industry, education and research.Study programs offered by the Institute are: research.

DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCES The department of Library and Information Sciences was incepted in 1986 to impart quality education and modern skills in the field, to the students of the region leading to Bachelor Degree in Library and Information Science. The B.Lib.& Inf.Sc. Course was widely accepted by the students and employers throughout the country, and soon the department became an important academic institution in the field of Library and Information Sciences.

On the persistent demand of the students, Masters degree course was started from the academic session 1992-93. Presently, the department admits 60 students in B.Lib & Inf. Sc. and 40 in M.Lib Information Science every year. The department is extensively engaged in teaching and research. Two research scholars have already been awarded Ph.D. degree and 15 are working for their Ph.D. degree on different htmlects of Library and Information Sciences.

The majority of pass outs of the department have occupied good positions throughout the country. The department has achieved the objective of 100% employment. Now the department is also all set to establish a highly efficient, computerized information system in the University. The department is also planning to disseminate knowledge through flexible curriculum and Distance Learning.
